What are the characteristics of slag in medium frequency induction furnace?

Compared with three-phase EAF smelting, its characteristics are as follows.
(1) Slag temperature is lower than liquid steel temperature
The heat source of induction furnace comes from the heat transformed by induction current in molten steel, which makes slag forming and heat preservation. Therefore, slag temperature is lower than liquid steel temperature, also known as cold slag.
The slag can be heated directly by arc and current in EAF, and the temperature of slag can be higher than that of molten steel.
Due to the low slag temperature of induction furnace, its chemical reaction ability and effect are limited, which is the disadvantage of induction furnace smelting.
(2) The amount of slag is small and the specific contact area of slag steel is small
The slag consumption of medium frequency induction furnace is about 1% ~ 3%, that of EAF is about 3% ~ 5%, and that of dephosphorization is more than 5%. The specific contact area of slag steel in EAF is 3 ~ 5 times of that in induction furnace. Therefore, its refining capacity is far greater than that of induction furnace.
(3) Slag has less function
According to different functions, EAF smelting can make foamed slag to play the role of slag covering, reducing power consumption and shortening the smelting cycle, and making strong deoxidizing slag such as white slag and carbide slag for diffusion deoxidation. Because of the low slag temperature, induction furnace can not achieve the desired metallurgical effect through different types of slag.
